About the project
This project involved the complete overhaul of an older apartment in Lovech. The existing interior was outdated and worn, requiring full renovation and custom-made furniture. The clients relied on a limited budget and wanted a simple, practical, and easy-to-maintain home that still felt bright and welcoming.
The main challenge was optimizing the existing floor plan while accommodating all the couple’s requirements, including a spacious kitchen, sufficient storage, and an aquarium display. The clients' wish for a large kitchen became a central focus of the design. Another key issue was the lack of a wardrobe or proper storage in the entryway, which required creative reconfiguration of walls and circulation. The result had to be a design that maximizes every centimeter of space while ensuring daily life feels comfortable, organized, and effortless.
Design approach
Our goal was to create a clean, functional, and affordable design that transforms the small apartment into a coherent and well-organized home. The concept was to use light colors, natural materials, and uncluttered forms to enhance the sense of space and brightness. We emphasized warm and neutral tones combined with soft textures to create a calm and inviting atmosphere. The furniture and built-in elements were designed with simplicity and proportion in mind, avoiding any excess while maintaining visual balance and comfort.
Functional Strategy
The main objective was to design a compact home that feels open, organized, and effortless to live in. The layout should make daily activities intuitive — from cooking and cleaning to relaxing and entertaining, supporting the clients’ lifestyle and habits. Every element aims to balance practicality and comfort, providing generous storage, smooth circulation, and easy-to-maintain surfaces. The goal is to achieve a sense of harmony — a home that feels light and welcoming while functioning efficiently in every detail.
How we did it
The finished interior feels bright, organized, and welcoming. Light oak surfaces, beige and white tones, and soft textiles create warmth and visual lightness. The decorative plaster wall behind the sofa and bed was designed to enhance the composition, adding elegance and subtle visual interest. The kitchen and living room were combined into one open, connected area to enhance spaciousness and functionality. Moving one of the kitchen walls slightly inward made room for a full-height wardrobe in the hallway, improving storage and circulation. Furniture was designed for maximum practicality — extending to the ceiling for added capacity and allowing clearance below for a robotic vacuum.
Smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces and minimal open shelving simplify everyday upkeep. Decorative details, artwork, and plants complete the composition, adding a personal touch to the calm, cohesive atmosphere. The Apartment in Lovech demonstrates how thoughtful design and efficient planning can turn a modest space and budget into a harmonious, functional home.
